It can seem simple at the time—your diesel engine is due for service, requiring fuel and/or oil filters and your in-the-moment cost consciousness awakens. Yet that momentary decision has consequences that can ripple through your entire diesel engine lifecycle. Filtration impacts your engine’s fuel efficiency and its oil drain intervals—all things that add to its value in the long run. Think about how much that new engine cost you and how much you hope to recoup on the secondary market. Filtration is not something you gamble with.

“We try to educate and remind our customers that, with the technology advances in today’s engines, you want to make sure you’re filtering out the tiniest of particles and not give up any engine efficiency,” said Phil Solomine, parts director, Campbell Supply Co., a Freightliner, Western Star, Spartan Fire Trucks and Isuzu Trucks dealership with six locations in New Jersey and one in New York. “Sure, a filter is something you consume, but it’s also something that can increase your bottom line by improving your fuel economy, improving your engine longevity, and maybe even extend your oil changes.”

A bulk of trucks that Campbell Supply Co. puts into the marketplace are powered by Detroit engines—DD13, DD15 and DD16—and while the dealership is able to service all makes and models, one constant remains: a strong partnership and preference for Fleetguard filters.

“Fleetguard commands the majority percentage of filters that we’re selling in our shops to do PM work and other maintenance,” Solomine said. And that includes Detroit engines.

Fleetguard filters have a red-engine pedigree, but the Fleetguard filtration expertise reaches into Detroit engines with high-quality filtration solutions. Currently, Fleetguard offers fuel filter kits for Detroit DD13, DD15 and DD16 model year 2021 and newer engines, along with kits for Detroit engines MY 2014-2020, as well as lube filters for 2020 MY DD13, DD15 and DD16 and newer, along with lube kits for 2014-2019 model years.

When trucks need service, finding the right parts can be a challenge. Fleetguard’s newly launched website makes tracking down the right fuel or lube filter for Detroit engines quick and easy. Click here to check out the new site.

Not only does Solomine see Fleetguard as the right choice for maximum engine durability and efficiency, but he also noted that selecting the Fleetguard choice backed by a relationship that can pay off big for customers.

“One of the reasons we stock, support and sell Fleetguard is because there’s a peace of mind that comes along with that purchase,” Solomine said. “If something does go wrong, we know that they have our back and the customer’s back.”
