Nikon has just added two new lenses for its Z-mount line. Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 is a lightweight zoom for your full-frame mirrorless Nikon, and the company boasts by making “the sleekest f/2.8 zoom for FX-format cameras it’s ever produced.” Other than the new zoom, a super-telephoto 800mm f/6.3 prime is coming, too. It’s still in the works, but Nikon used the opportunity to present that one to the public as well.
Let’s start with the lens that can already be preordered. The Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 is designed for full-frame Nikon Z cameras. But, of course, you can use it on crop bodies too and get a 42-112.5mm equivalent focal length. The minimum focusing distance is 7.5″, so you can also get quite close to your subjects.
The lens covers a wide-angle to the portrait-length range, which makes it pretty versatile. In fact, it could be your go-to lens if you need to pack lightly. Speaking of which, the relatively small size and weight of this lens will make your camera bag even lighter. It’s 4.8″ long when retracted and weighs 30% less than the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens.
The new 28-75mm f/2.8 is an AF lens, equipped with a stepping motor, providing quick and quiet autofocus. So, you can use it for both photos and videos. Focus breathing has been suppressed to benefit video use and maintain a consistent field of view when changing focus.
Programmable Control Ring is set to adjust the manual focus by default. However, you can also set it to control aperture or exposure compensation.

The Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 is available for preorders and it comes with a price tag of $1,196.95.
Nikon has also announced the development of the Nikkor Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S. It’s a super-telephoto prime lens for full-frame Z mirrorless cameras. On a crop body, it will give you a whopping 1200mm equivalent focal length. What we know so far is that Nikon is going to make a lens of this focal length as small as possible. It will adopt a PF (Phase Fresnel) element which will enable a significant reduction in size and weight.
The Nikkor Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S is still in the “look what we’re planning to make” phase, so we don’t know too much about it. However, Nikon decided to present it to the public and I believe that it won’t be long before we find out more about it.
